5th ANNUAL EGG DROP DESIGN CONTEST

Categories and Times:
• Grades 5 & under • 10:30 a.m.
• Grades 6 - 8 • 11:30 a.m.
• Grades 9 - 12 • 1:00 p.m.
• College/Adults • 1:00 p.m.
Objective:
Design the lightest possible container for a fresh egg that
will prevent the egg from breaking or cracking when dropped
from the upper floors of the Virginia Air & Space Center.
Prizes are awarded to:
1st, 2nd & 3rd place: in each age category, for the lightest, successful parachute and non-parachute entries that accommodates a single egg.
• 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place: in each age category, for the lightest, successful Parachute and non-parachute entries that accommodates two eggs.
• Most creative in each category

Rules:
• No Styrofoam.
• No balloon designs.
• Weight penalty (5 grams/inch) assessed for containers landing
outside the one-foot diameter target area.
• Registration begins 30 minutes before the drop
times for the respective age categories.
Non-Parachute Category ONLY - Entries will drop from 3rd floor
for each age group.
• Parachute Category Only - Entries will drop from the 2nd floor
for each age group.
• Entries designed to accommodate two eggs may be of a parachute
or non-parachute design. All two egg designs will be dropped from the 2nd floor.
